Bayan Ko (My Country) is a Filipino political drama created by Nessa Valdellon and produced by Eliza Zamora Solis for GMA News and Public Affairs intended for 2013 National Election. The six-part series premiered on March 10, 2013, airs every Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. on GMA News TV. It is written by Rodolfo Vera and directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr.[2]

Overview
Bayan Ko is GMA News TV's first original series inspired by the life of the late Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo as well as social realist films of director Lino Brocka.[3] The series tackles serious matters with a touch of comedy—and an unexpected romance—but its primary goal is to bring political and social issues. The series is shot entirely on high definition and goes through the color grading process.[4]

The series is set in the fictional town of Lagros and revolves around the newly elected Mayor Joseph Santiago, played by Rocco Nacino, who sets out to make a difference in his hometown. The idealistic Mayor faces roadblocks at every turn. He must learn to lead lazy and uncooperative municipal employees, change the mindset of a mendicant populace and stand up to a powerful dynasty led by patriarch Governor Antonio Rubio played by Pen Medina.[5]

Premise
Lagros' newly elected mayor, Joseph Santiago, discovers that a bunch of wayward employees have turned the municipal hall into a boarding house and, worse, have been making under the table deals. His efforts to fight corruption are blocked by a political dynasty led by Governor Antonio Rubio and Congressman Anton Rubio.[6]
